EuropeanLocal Project Passes First Test
Just back from three days in Luxembourg where the EuropeanaLocal project had its first intermediate review.
Every EC-funded project has to undergo regular reviews of its work and in particular the deliverables that it has produced. This is to check that the project is on course and gives the opertunity correct any difficulties that may arise.
The process is relativly simple and open.
- The Commission selects independent experts (in our case two). The project can be object those chosen, for example if there is a conflict of interest.
- Before the review day the experts are given access to the project documentation, including the Description of Work (DOW) and the deliverables that are being looked at.
- On the review day the project gives a series of presentations of the work that has been carried out. This time I gave a presentation on the results of the standards survey that we carried out as part of the project.
- The reviewers then can ask any questions about the project to those present.
- After a private discussion the experts then give immediate feedback. This isis followed up by a formal written assessment which includes recommendations.
Not unexpectedly EuropeanaLocal “… achieved its objectives and technical goals for the period.”
One final result of the review is that where deliverables are classed as ‘Public’ these can be made available via the project’s website.
